The Black Hawk CIL helps people with disabilities live independently by providing its four core services:
 | Independent living skills training (teaching people with disabilities regular daily living skills), |

| Cross-disability peer-support counseling |
| Upon request, we also provide ADA technical assistance. |
The Black Hawk CIL Board of Directors in collaboration with the Executive Director formulates the Center's policies and establishes the direction of those policies in accordance with the needs and requirements of the Center's membership. The Board of Directors uses long-range planning and development in order to set policy.
Our Board consists of people who believe in the independent living philosophy and the independence of people with disabilities, and are also concerned with their needs and barriers of independent living.
The Black Hawk CIL Board of Directors is comprised of at least fifty-one percent (51%) of people with disabilities.
Members of the Board of Directors are elected to a three year term and are allowed a second consecutive three year term before a mandatory year off the Board prior to final three year term.
Members of the Board of Directors are elected, re-elected, or approved by the BHCIL members who attend the Annual Membership Meeting which is held each September. Members who are elected onto the Board by sitting members during the interim between Annual Meetings must be accepted for a full term by BHCIL members at the next Annual Meeting.
Meetings of the BHCIL Board of Directors are held every other month on the third Monday of the month from 6:00PM to 7:30PM at the BHCIL and are open to the public.
Please carefully consider sharing your talents, abilities, and expertise and apply to join the Board of Directors. The Center always needs additional Board members. To apply, pick up an application at the Black Hawk CIL during normal business hours, or you can have one mailed to you.
